Valved rear silencer for the Ferrari 456 GT. The 5.5 V12 sits at the front of a car built as a grand tourer, so the exhaust has to work two ways: quiet enough for long distances, open enough to be worth having.

What it changes

The original silencer is the main damping element on the 456, and it is deliberately conservative. Replacing it brings the V12 into the cabin on demand without making the car tiring: with the flaps closed the tone is deeper than standard but still restrained.

Material and build

T309 (1.4828) stainless steel, hand TIG welded and polished in Sundern, Germany. On a car of this age the material matters: it resists corrosion far better than the original steel.

Before you order

• Capristo also lists a free-flow exhaust system covering the 456, 550 and 575, which is a different position;
• Check whether your car has factory flap control; without it a Capristo controller is needed;
• On a car of this age replace the flange gaskets and check the hangers during installation;
• Installation uses the original mounting points.
