Replacement pipes for the catalyst section of the Mercedes-Benz GLE 500 and GLE 550 with the M278 biturbo V8, in the W166 SUV and C292 Coupe bodies. They take the place of the standard converters, the largest restriction left once the rear silencer has been opened up.

Two versions

• Pipes in place of the secondary catalysts (02MB09103007);
• Fully catless pipes (02MB09103008).

The first keeps the primary converters in the car and only removes the second stage; the second takes the catalyst section out entirely and is a track part.

What changes

Catalyst substrates are the narrowest point exhaust gas passes through. Taking them out of the path lets the turbochargers unload faster, so spool and throttle response change before anything is heard.

Material and build

T309 (1.4828) stainless steel, rated above 600 C, hand TIG welded and polished to a mirror finish in Sundern, Germany.

Before you order

• The parts are shared with the GLE 63 cars of the same generation;
• Tuning is needed so no fault is set after the swap;
• Installation uses the original flanges and is reversible.
