Audi RS3 8V: 500+ hp from the five-cylinder EA855 EVO
A hybrid turbo, exhaust and fuelling. What actually limits the five-cylinder engine — and where the sensible line runs.
The EA855 EVO is one of those rare factory engines built with real headroom: closed deck, forged rods, decent pistons. That is exactly why 500+ hp is achievable without opening the engine.
The bottleneck
There is only one and it is obvious — the stock turbocharger. At 480 hp it runs at the edge of its efficiency island: it heats the charge, demands early injection and cannot hold torque at the top end.
The build
- Hybrid turbocharger on the factory mount
- Catless downpipe
- Higher-flow injectors
- Calibration for 98 octane
A note on sound: a five-cylinder with a straight-through exhaust has a character of its own, but the owner deliberately kept the resonator — without it you cannot hold a conversation at 120 km/h.
